Dale Scott has been selected as the crew chief and home plate umpire for the 2011 All-Star Game at Chase Field in Phoenix.
Scott, in his 26th year of big league service, will work an All-Star Game for the third time in his career. He was also a part of the crew for the 1993 and 2001 games.
Jerry Lane will look over first base, Hunter Wendelstedt at second base and Dan Iassogna at third. Ed Hickox will handle left field duties while Chris Guccione will take care of right field.
This will be the third All-Star Game for Layne, but it will be the first Midsummer Classic for the rest of the crew.

The St. Louis Sports Hall of Fame announced today that Dave Phillips was selected to be inducted into their Hall of Fame. Phillips will be honored along with Super Bowl Champion Isasc Bruce and Torry Holt as well as other prominent sports figures. A dinner will be held in mid-November to honor the 2011 selections. Dave's career started in 1971 and ended in 2002. During his career, he officiated four World Series and two All-Star games.
Dave also authored the book Center Field on Fire: An Umpire’s Life With Pine Tar Bats, Spitballs, and Corked Personalities.
We congratulate Dave on being selected to the St. Louis Sports Hall of Fame.

St. Louis Sports Hall of Fame to add Bruce, Holt, Phillips Super Bowl champions Isaac Bruce and Torry Holt, plus Dave Phillips, 32 year veteran MLB umpire who worked 4 World Series, top the list of 2011 inductees to the St. Louis Sports Hall of Fame. Sixteen individual selections were announced Tuesday, and they will be honored at a dinner in mid-November.

Erma Bergmann, a pitcher in the All-American Girls Professional Baseball League from 1946-51.
Frank Borghi, goalkeeper for the U.S. team in the stunning 1-0 victory over England in the 1950 World Cup.
Scottie Bowman, long time NHL Hockey coach and winningest coach in NHL history
Jim Holtgrieve, the area's top amateur men's golfer who appeared in four Masters and is captain of the 2011 U.S. Walker Cup team.
Roy Sievers, 1949 AL Rookie of the Year for the St. Louis Browns who had a 42-homer season for the Washington Senators in '57.
Garry Unger, who scored 30 or more goals in each of his eight seasons with the Blues.
Rusty Wallace, winner of 55 NASCAR races and currently a prominent TV analyst for racing broadcasts.
Craig Virgin, three-time qualifier for U.S. Olympic track and field teams in the 10,000-meter run.
Lenny Wilkens, Basketball Hall of Famer who was a high-scoring guard for the St. Louis Hawks.
Four sportsmen will be honored posthumously: tennis legend Arthur Ashe, longtime columnist and sports editor Bob Burnes, St. Louis Cardinals owner August A. Busch Jr. and MVP shortstop Marty Marion from the Cardinals' championship teams in the 1940s. |
